Happy Gut for 2016!

Posted on January 2, 2016January 2, 2016 by Kate

Screen Shot 2016-01-02 at 19.34.17I’m welcoming 2016 with open arms, not that 2015 was bad or anything… So come December I really started to think about making positive changes in my life and if you follow me on Instagram, you might have noticed a sudden spike in activity (especially with the food pics).

I haven’t ever been shy about having Crohn’s disease, especially online, before I really thought about what I was doing, I was blogging about coping (or not coping) with the disease when I was first diagnosed as a sort of therapy, almost. I am part of a Facebook group (which has stemmed a lot of worries about online-privacy with vulnerable people) and I tweet about the disease a lot too, so it really is part of my digital identity.

So I’ve got to this point in my ‘remission’ when I actually sat and thought that I was still very much reacting to my Crohn’s whenever it caused any upset. I am deemed as being in remission and have been for about 4 years now, but it doesn’t mean I am completely symptom free. So instead of waiting for an upset stomach, I’ve been researching into how I can manage my symptoms (and hopefully the condition) through my lifestyle choices. I am now thinking much more carefully about my diet; not to say I was ignorant to what upset me before, but I can’t carry on being that foolish.

So now I have been stepping up my game with my diet. I’m still forever learning, so please stay with me and if there are any dieticians, Crohnies, IBD-ers, and IBS-ers out there please say hello!

I’ve spent a lot of time reading up on different ways I can manage my IBD better. Taking positive steps towards a much more balanced lifestyle for 2016. Tonight I made, dare I say it, scrummy flourless (I don’t want to profess to ‘Gluten Free’) pancakes. 🙂 Portion for one: 1 large, ripe banana; handful of fresh blueberries (can use frozen wild berries); 2 eggs; table spoon of desiccated coconut. Blend ingredients together into a batter. Preheat skillet so it is super hot; turn the heat right down and add tea spoon of coconut oil; then, pour batter into pan, flip; top it off with fresh blueberries and maple syrup (low fructose). #IBD #Crohns #IBS #ibsfriendly #diet #recipe #instafood #instagood #instafit #fitfam #coconut #blueberry #pancakes #glutenfree #fructosefree #maplesyrup #banana #bananagrams #getyourbellyout #crohnsdisease #crohnsfighter #health #healthyliving #paleo #paleodiet
