I have been keeping this under wraps for quite some time now, but I am super proud to announce that I am one of the Internet Society’s 25 Under 25 awardees for my contributions towards making the internet a safer, fairer place.
I will be jetting off the Los Angeles for the celebrations in September where I will meet the other winners as well as the Internet Hall of Fame-rs. I have been introduced to the other winners and they have all made such incredible contributions to digital literacy, empowerment, community development, privacy and security. Such a funny coincidence but James Beaumont of InstaCrohns is also a winner! Fancy the odds of having two crohnies in the mix huh!?
What have I been doing to receive this award?
I was nominated and subsequently awarded for my dedicated commitment to educating others around the topic of digital privacy. I have also been working with connected technologies for storytelling, community development and for education.
Such projects include:
- #PrivacyUG
- Towards Openness
- Phonar Nation
And what am I going to be doing now?
I am going to continue with my PhD research that is looking at how online health communities, and in particular Inflammatory Bowel Disease, come to share health information in different social media platforms; what we value; and, how we can better protect those values from adversaries.
While I’m away…
I am planning on sharing as much of this experience as possible through my social media accounts (Twitter and Instagram), my blog, and I may even create videos too. 🙂
I’m SUPER excited. Let’s get to work!
